My journey in Denmark started in 2013 when I decided to do a master's degree program in International Business Management at the University of Southern Denmark and to figure out why Danish citizens are happy. While pursuing my own happiness, I've been fortunate enough to discover myself, meet some wonderful people and realize that this could definitely be my place to live.\\n\\n## You have recently finished your studies. How does it feel to be an international recent graduate in Denmark? What are the challenges you face here, and how do you try to overcome them?\\n\\nI have experienced a lot of mixed feelings after finishing my master’s studies. Maybe some recent graduates can also resonate with the idea of being lost and not knowing what to do. Luckily, I partially overcame it by reflecting on the things I love to do and finding my inner drive.\\n\\nThe first words that come to my mind are: a road full of challenges. And the following statements could be seen as a common pattern among graduates. Especially if they lived in the “international bubble” and didn’t have a lot of contact with the locals, nor access to information. If you go to seminars related to job search, they encourage you to build a network and to keep it warm. Fair enough I say, yet how to start building one if you were part of the bubble? By being actively involved in social activities and meeting people at events and career or job fairs.\\n\\nAfter figuring this out, another question emerges: how to find and participate at these events as most of them are in Danish or one needs to get an invitation? The answer is to enroll into Danish language classes, volunteer to practice and improve the language and make friends. The inquiry can continue, but I think everyone gets the point. And it’s okay, I love challenges, otherwise I won’t be here. If all the things will be easy to get, we won’t be able to truly appreciate them. Could you tell a bit more about your projects, volunteering and other passions.\\n\\nYes, indeed I have a lot of energy and want to use it to accumulate knowledge and experience and to develop myself professionally and personally. I am channeling my vitality into doing several activities. For a while, I have been investigating the networking dilemma and since there is a great need of establishing an International Professional Network in Odense, my intention to develop one.\\n\\nI am also involved in [HCA Toastmasters](https://www.facebook.com/hcatoastmasters/). The aim of the association is to help people learn and become better at public speaking. Additionally, once a week I volunteer in a second-hand shop called [Odense Svalerne Loppemarked](https://www.facebook.com/OdenseSvalerne/) where I help with social media, events and taking care of the shop. The NGO supports projects in India and Bangladesh by selling second-hand furniture, home decor, books, movies, paintings and clothing.\\n\\nFurthermore, I am taking an intensive Danish language course at LærDansk language school. Sundays are for practicing my new language skills: I attend and help organize [Chat in Danish](https://ico.odense.dk/subsites6/internationalcommunity/topmenu/events%20and%20activities/chat-in-danish) activities. Don’t be afraid to try or to fail and always think about ways you can improve. Find your passion. How? I would advice to explore your past, to go backwards to the most vivid, joyful and playful image that you have - with a toy, at a birthday party or during vacation and begin to build from that emotion - how that specific one connects with your life now and if you are fortunate enough you can find your own drive. If it doesn’t work, you can still have a good laugh about your silly childhood experiences.\\n\\n## What is the biggest joy in your daily life?\\n\\nIt brings a great joy to me to meet and bring people together from different cultures and educational backgrounds, develop ideas and provide them assistance. It’s like... impossible. I just say I work with computers. Honestly, my grandmother thinks I work with computers. Which I do, but... It is really tricky for some people to understand. For example, from time to time I get asked to format someones computer. I can, but not because I have learned it in the university. Or people telling me that their printer does not work. Please, Google!\\n\\n## What do you think it is the hardest in a work-life of a developer?\\n\\nUnderstanding sales. Or more - understanding what a client is really asking for. For a programmer everyone is a client - a project manager, a graphic designer, and a direct client for sure.\\n\\n## What for you is the most joyful moment or process when programming?\\n\\nWhat I enjoy the most is when I do a clean, good code. How to explain it to you… It happens when I start working on something new, and the code is there, just simply clean and understandable.\\n\\n## Why would you advise one to learn how to program?\\n\\nWell first, you gotta like it. You are working on something that is constantly evolving and you are always learning. Nowadays everything has at least a bit programming in it: it is like fixing a pipe, just nowadays. It all started when I was a kid, because I did not like meat: it did not look good, it did not taste good. The irony of the story is that I also did not like many vegetables at that time.\\n\\n## How did your family react to this change?\\n\\nEveryone thought I will die and the elderly family members were judging my mother - “Oh, you don’t give meat to your child.” I used to have my blood checked at least once in a year. In Lithuania, as well as in Denmark, we are very much meat eaters and eating meat is a norm. I can say thank you to my mom, because she was the one cooking separately for me.\\n\\n## What are the challenges you face related to your diet?\\n\\nIn my daily life, if I am at home, I am not challenged. But the challenges I am facing starts when I have to eat with other people or when I have to eat out, or when I travel. When I think about food, I say that I do not like to eat out. But I really like to try out raw, vegan places and try something new, get inspired and motivated. How do I answer? My answer is simple - from food. I read a lot about food and I get my protein from different beans, tofu and green leaf vegetables, as well as other type of vegetables I eat.\\n\\n## Can you feel the difference between being vegetarian in Lithuania and Denmark?\\n\\nI think that people are actually very open for vegetarian lifestyle in Denmark. At home, in Lithuania, people are more surprised, there are still lots of questions being raised. In Denmark people are not questioning it so much. Though I still meet people who say - \\\"One day I am going to cook you that fish and you gonna love it!\\\"\\n\\nWhen it comes to eating out, I can feel the development in Odense. There are new places opening up. I have lived in many other countries. For example, I have lived in South Korea where people do not know what it means to be vegetarian. Sometimes I was just eating rice with soy sauce. It was challenging.\\n\\n## Any thoughts about becoming vegan?\\n\\nOn a daily basis, at home, I follow vegan diet, I do not eat milk products. However, I have some exceptions, and if I have a dinner with my friends it is okay if they use cheese in meals. When I think about the vegan diet, I feel that it is very right for me to be vegan. At the same time I am thinking about other people and adjusting to the situation. Other than that I am trying to be true to myself. I am also thinking about what is right, from the side of the animals. About all the production and industries. I like the feeling of being light, though I have to eat more times per day in order not to be hungry.\\n\\n## What inspires you to create a new recipe?\\n\\nI try to look around and get inspired. I am following an idea to eat more seasonal food. Around one year ago I started taking pictures of my food and posting them on Instagram. At the same time I started following other people for inspiration. Moreover, I read a lot about food, because I want to have a reason why am I vegetarian, from a nutritional side.\\n\\nWhen I started posting my food on Instagram, people started asking me - “Can you share this recipe?” And I thought - “Okay, one day I will start my food blog.” So here I am. To be honest, I do not like cooking. Food for me has to be easy and fast to make. I think the most amazing thing is that some of my friends are really inspired. It also really motivates me. I have some requests to make videos, so let’s see what happens in the future.\\n\\n## I like that you are an early bird and once I wake up I can already see a picture of your morning smoothie on my Instagram feed. What about your identity as a smoothie queen?\\n\\nI started with smoothies because they are so beautiful! It all started when I was going to the gym in the morning and had smoothies all the time for breakfast, so just started to take pictures of them. For me the food also has to be beautiful. It makes you more satisfied.\\n\\nThis is why I have started my blog. I think it is great that I can inspire other people by just doing what is completely normal for me. I wanted to have a place where I can share what do I eat with others.\\n\\nI had some crisis in my life, when everything broke and I had to start from the beginning. I tried to eat meat at that moment and it just did not make sense for me. I do not like it. I also do not eat bread and do not like pasta. My body is not used to heavier food anymore. I did some yoga courses and trainings, I have also tried yoga practice groups here in Odense. I would love to become a certified yoga teacher in the future and combine it with my work. It is my lifestyle, that is what I believe in - eating healthy, doing exercise, having a healthy mind.\\n\\nI think now there is a trend of doing fitness, being vegetarian. However, everyone should choose what is the best for them. I do not believe that we all can become vegetarians and that all of us need to. But all of our decisions should have a reason and should feel right.\\n\\n## What advice would you give to someone who would like to become vegetarian, but have not made the transition yet?\\n\\nI guess, to do it slowly. I think it should not be an extreme change. Extreme things usually do not last long, it is better to take small steps. Try something like vegetarian Monday or just decreasing meat in your ration little by little. I know many people who say that they do not even need meat, but still eat it from time to time. And that is already a good start.\\n\\n## What gives you the biggest joy on the daily basis?\\n\\nI am happy to wake up, make a smoothie, post about it and so inspire other people. Was it a spontaneous decision?\\n\\nCristina: We used to live in Bucharest, the capital of Romania. There we have met, studied and stayed to work afterwards. I graduated in journalism and worked for a private television with PR, copywriting and marketing for about 15 years. Once the children were born I decided to become a freelancer and work with different clients.\\n\\nCosmin: I finished medicine studies, I am a physio-kinesiotherapist, but I have never worked as one. For the last ten years I was working for a pharmaceutical company Bayer HealthCare. The decision of moving to Denmark was not spontaneous. We wanted to change our lifestyle and find a place where our dreams could come true. All the process took us around 3 years. Our first country of choice was Canada, then New Zealand, but both of them were too far away.\\n\\nCristina: Then we decided to focus on Europe. Some years ago I attended a creative writing workshop in Denmark, a little town called Viborg. I stayed there for two weeks and really liked what I saw. We spent two to three days in every major city willing to feel the atmosphere and make the choice.\\n\\n## What made you choose Odense after all?\\n\\nCosmin: We did not want to move to the capital, as we were already living in one. It felt like we needed to take a break from a busy city life.\\n\\nCristina: In Odense we spent only about half a day, we walked around the city center and I really liked what I saw. I said “this is it!”\\n\\nCosmin: After we chose the city, the clock started ticking: we decided to move to Denmark in one year. And so a year later I ended my contract with Bayer, we said goodbye to our nanny and took off.\\n\\n## From pharma to photography is quite a significant change...\\n\\nCosmin: Of course, now I feel that I am living a totally different life… Photography was my dream. I got my first camera 15 years ago, but it was always just a hobby. When you are working in a pharmaceutical business you have everything except time. My first book is inspired by stories I told Tudor. There was a little spider that lived in our apartment in Bucharest and no one could touch it. We used to leave notes to our nanny - “please, don't take our friend-spider away”. However, one day the spider disappeared and we started thinking about the reasons why it left. That is how the book about the adventures of the little spider after it left our apartment was born.\\n\\nNow I am focusing on our story in Denmark. Our family used to have a dog, whose ashes we brought to Denmark. We noticed that the urna was opened at the airport because of security procedures. It inspired me to start writing about the adventures of our dog’s phantom travelling back to the airport in Copenhagen to get its missing piece back. It is nice to receive such feedback.\\n\\nEncouraged by it, we decided to go further and offer a combined service for start-ups: photography and writing, to make small businesses known by publishing their story on yourphotostory.dk and also to help them with photos and texts for websites. I was driving a car every day for the last 15 years and I was really tired of it. Now I have not been driving for 8 months and it feels perfect: I don't need a car anymore, I am free to go anywhere in Odense by bike.\\n\\nCristina: We started urban gardening at Gro Odense Byhave. It feels so nice to meet new people, get to know more about plants.
